Register for a Training Session

Gaining Skills to Do a Better Job

Compliance, Diversity, and Ethics training sessions, both in person and online, are open to all Mason faculty and staff. We recommend that those in supervisory roles and faculty up for promotion and tenure schedule applicable training as soon as possible.

The office schedules regular sessions for training that is required of all Mason faculty and staff members. We advise you to attend the sessions that apply to your position as soon as possible after your start date.

Any training we offer can also be set up for departments or student organizations. If you would like a training session for your entire department, fill out the Custom Training Form. If we have any questions about the request, we will contact you within three to five business days.

If you've been through one of these training sessions and are seeking something custom, please specify what you would like when filling out the form.

Note: If you register less than 24 hours prior to the class, you may not receive the email update. Please contact CDE at 703-993-8730 to verify that the location of the training has not changed.

Depending on your position, duties, and responsibilities, you might be required to take one or more of the following training sessions:

Sexual Harassment Prevention and Equal Opportunity

This basic introductory session offers guidance on general sexual harassment policies, and equal opportunity policies regarding harassment and discrimination across all differences. To register: Sign in with your Mason credentials, then click Profile to verify your information; save. Preventing Sexual Harassment (online training is temporarily unavailable)

We are currently updating our online training course, so it currently unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you need to take the course, please sign up for one of our on-site sessions. We plan to resume online training as soon as possible.

Diversity and Cultural Awareness

This session introduces participants to ideas regarding diversity and its benefits. To register: Sign in with your Mason credentials, then click Profile to verify your information; save. Ethics

This session reviews applicable laws, Mason's principles and Code of Ethics, and discusses effective tools to address ethical dilemmas. To register: Sign in with your Mason credentials, then click Profile to verify your information; save. Search Committee Briefing

A one-hour session covers the steps in Mason's hiring process, including best practices for conducting the process legally and efficiently. Sessions are presented jointly by the Office of Human Resources and Payroll and Compliance, Diversity, and Ethics. Contact the HR and Payroll Training Team at 703-993-6764 to request training, which can be done on site.

SUPERvisor Series

This comprehensive program offers sessions on cultural awareness, a review of Mason's equal employment opportunity and discrimination policies, and reviews of disability policies at Mason, including reasonable accommodations. These sessions are presented jointly by the Office of Human Resources and Payroll and Compliance, Diversity, and Ethics. Custom Training Available

The following are available as custom training sessions. Please fill out the Request Custom Training form to schedule a session for your department. If you don't see what you need here, we can craft a session to meet your specific requirements.

Cultural Awareness to Cultural Competency

This interactive and experiential training session goes beyond recognizing cultural differences and explores the best methods for and skills needed to address the issues that diverse groups of people may experience.

Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action

This information session gives insight into Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action. Topics include the definition of EO and AA, as well as how both are applicable in higher education and the workplace.

Title IX

This training on Title IX provides an overview of the law, responsibilities of individuals, appropriate/inappropriate behavior and steps to take to address inappropriate behavior of others.

Americans with Disabilities Act, Disability and Employment

This course provides an overview of the employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title 1) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1993 (section 504). It covers: the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees; Definitions of "disability;" the process for identifying and providing reasonable accommodations; how to troubleshoot job performance and safety issues; pre-employment do's and don'ts; requirements concerning medical information and confidentiality; and what happens when someone files a complaint.

Bias Reduction

This course introduces strategies for recognizing and responding to our own biases.
